Three years ago, singer/songwriter Don Middlebrook ventured through Florida’s Forgotten Coast in search of a song. Driven by the charm of the Mexico Beach, Florida area, Middlebrook found himself writing lyrics on a bar napkin at Mango Marley’s in Mexico Beach.
Six months later Don’s CD “The Mexico Beach Road Trip” was streaming worldwide – as well as playing in over 45,000 AMI Jukeboxes across the country.
The following June found Middlebrook back at Mango Marley’s for a CD release party. As we all know, October 10th, 2018, Hurricane Michael devastated Mexico Beach and the Florida panhandle. Since then Middlebrook has dedicated all sales and downloads of his song, “Mexico Beach,” to helping the panhandle.
In 2019, Middlebrook created the first Hurricane Relief Benefit that raised $4,000 for Panama City, Florida, and this year he will distribute $3,000 to the city of Mexico Beach – earmarked for beach rehabilitation, palm tree replacement, and canal repair. In addition, $1,000 will go to Mango Marley’s where the song was born. Mango Marley’s has been operating out of a tent since the hurricane landed and is now only a few months away from being back in their own building!
Middlebrook’s song sales will continue to benefit Mexico Beach, and on January 15 & 16, a second Hurricane Relief Benefit – spearheaded by the Panama City Parrot Head Club and the Emerald Coast (Destin) Parrot Head Club – will give additional support to Panama City. An amazing line-up of talented Tropical Rock (Trop Rock) artists from around the country will again donate their time for the two-night event at Lulu’s in Destin. Entertainment runs from 5:00 – 9:00 pm each night. All welcome. No cover charge.
