The Show
“Trop Rock Talk with Trop Rock Thom” celebrates the music, musicians,
stories, and easygoing coastal spirit that make Trop Rock more than a
genre—it’s a way of life. Each episode brings listeners closer to the
artists who create the soundtrack to life by the water, with conversations,
music discoveries, personal stories, and a healthy dose of island
attitude.

From the unmistakable influence of Jimmy Buffett to today’s independent
Trop Rock and Tropical Americana artists, I explore the sounds and
stories that connect beach lovers, boaters, travelers, songwriters, and
fans. Listeners can expect artist spotlights and interviews, looks at the
genre's roots and evolution, and stories inspired by sailing, fishing,
coastal adventures, and the people we meet along the way.
Whether you’re a longtime Parrothead, a devoted Trop Rock fan, or
simply someone who enjoys great music with a coastal feel, I invite you
to pull up a chair, turn up the volume, and come along.
Meet the Host: Trop Rock Thom
I’m Thom—a mountain-raised sailor, fisherman, diver, kayaker, and
beach lover who has always been drawn to salt air, open water, and
good music. My love affair with the beach began on my first trip to Myrtle
Beach as a kid. The moment I saw the ocean, I was hooked. I loved it,
and I was beach-bitten.

After years of exploring beaches in the United States and abroad, I
eventually moved to Savannah, Georgia, where I lived near the tidal
waters and spent as much time as possible fishing, crabbing, biking, and

enjoying coastal life. Life later brought me back to the mountains, but
never far enough away that I couldn’t make a run to the beach. These
days, I still spend as much time as I can on the water—sailing, kayaking,
diving, and fishing—and I enjoy playing music whenever I can.
I also work full-time in the software industry, a career that gives me the
flexibility to work and travel while supporting my family. But Trop Rock
has become an important creative outlet and a way to connect with
people who share my love of music and the coastal lifestyle.
I created Trop Rock Talk as a podcast and blog to celebrate the music
and lifestyle I love. Through the show, I get to share great songs, talk
with artists, discover the stories behind the music, and connect with a
community that understands the freedom and fun of life near the water. I
believe the best part of this music isn’t just the sound; it’s the people,
places, and memories that come with it.
